A Call to Religious Revolution
The Freeport Journal Standard recently published a piece called From the Pulpit: Time for a Christian Revolutionary War by the pastor of The Father’s House Church. While it doesn't matter where this church is or who this pastor is, the content of the article is another frightening example of dangerous, extremist thought in our country.
It is time for a new Christian revolutionary war.
and
The true church of Jesus Christ must arise in this desperate hour and storm heaven with our prayers. We must not relent until our Christian heritage is established again in every aspect of society.
This is a call to treasonous violence. Establishment of christianity in "every aspect of society" would be in violation of the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.
This man goes on to say that
We cannot allow the secular humanists, the religious liberals or the immoral of society [to] speak on behalf of our nation. It is time that the church of Jesus Christ find its revolutionary voice, and proclaim to everyone who will listen, that this nation is and will always be “one nation under God.”
This extremist is unaware that our pledge did not contain the unconstitutional phrase he mentions until the Knights of Columbus convinced a Congress scared to its McCarthyite core by the atheist Soviet Union to add the phrase "under God" in 1954.
More importantly, though, this treasonous bastard is specifically calling for a religious war! In the United States of America!
My country was founded on religious tolerance. So, here is my letter to the pastor:
Pastor Vandenburgh,
Your piece in the Freeport Journal Standard has come to my attention, and, as an atheist American, I am disgraced. Your call to war on my family is despicable. How dare you call yourself a Christian!
My mother is an evangelical, and I, myself, was raised a Lutheran. That I have chosen to reject religion is my right as a citizen of the United States. While it is your right to speak and publish as you have, I hope you find the proper Christian shame for what you have proposed before someone takes your words into action and performs another atrocious act of violence against those that believe differently.
This is America, sir, and your freedom of speech bears with its exercise much responsibility.
Sincerely,
